New Prospect Baptist Church

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO FIND GOD?  Jesus said, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father."  Our desire at New Prospect is to pull back the covers and reveal God to our world.  We seek to do that through preaching and teaching Jesus.  The best picture of God that can ever be painted is the story of Jesus.  We tell that story through our worship services and by teaching Jesus in all Bible study times.  We also seek to be like Jesus in our lives and relationships.  We want Jesus to be seen through the way we treat one another - we want people to see Jesus in the way that we treat them.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN FEEL AT HOME?  At New Prospect Baptist Church, we specialize in making people feel at home.  Jesus showed immense respect for every person He met regardless of their place or station in life.  It is our desire at New Prospect to emulate the respect for every individual that Jesus modeled.  Our fellowship is marked by an openness which recognizes that every person is an individual responsible to God for his/her relationship with God Himself and with his/her neighbor.  Those relationships are governed by the love which Jesus exemplified in His sinless life and sacrificial death.  You will be loved at New Prospect Baptist Church.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO FIND HONEST ANSWERS?  At New Prospect Baptist Church, our source of authority for all questions is the Bible.  We seek, by the Holy Spirit's leadership, to "rightly divide" the Bible.  That is, we study the Bible in order to provide the answers to life's questions which the Holy Spirit seeks to provide.  Answers are not dictated by tradition or personal preferences.  Answers are sought through divine guidance, legitimate scholarly methods, and practical application.  Any honest question is treated with regard and respect.

FROM THE PASTOR'S HEART

From the 1st century, A.D., comes some light about how to deal with our present political situation...in particular, our president.  Here is a quotation from Tertullian (Quintus S. Florens Tertullianus), one of the church fathers.  This was written around the year 193.

"As to the Emperor and the charge of high treason against us, Caesar's safety lies not in hands soldered on. We invoke the true God for the Emperor. Even if he persecute us, we are bidden pray for them that persecute us, as you can read in our books which are not hidden, which you often get hold of. We pray for him because the Empire stands between us and the end of the world. We count the Caesars to be God's vice-regents and swear by their safety (not by their genius, as required). As for loyalty, Caesar really is more ours than yours; for it was our God who set him up. It is for his own good, that we refuse to call the Emperor God; Father of his Country is a better title. No Christian has ever made a plot against a Caesar; the famous conspirators and assassins were heathen, one and all.  Piety, religion, faith are our best offering of loyalty." ~ Tertullian (160?-230?), Apology [ca. 193]

Read it like this:

As to President O'bama and the charge of high treason against us as Christians, O'bama's safety lies not in hands soldered on. Christians invoke the true God for the President. Even if he persecute us, we are bidden pray for them that persecute us, as you can read in our books which are not hidden, which you often get hold of. We pray for O'bama because the Nation stands between us and the end of the world. We count the Presidents to be God's vice-regents and swear by their safety (not by their genius, as required). As for loyalty, O'bama really is more ours than non-believers; for it was our God who set him up. It is for his own good, that we refuse to call the President God; Father of his Country is a better title. No Christian has ever made a plot against a president; the famous conspirators and assassins were heathen, one and all.  Duty to God, worship of God, and faith in God are our best offering of loyalty.

Words That Make You Go...Hmmm!

"Too many Christians still live with crossed fingers, sweating out their good luck as a portent of calamity. To see them, you would never guess that God's good pleasure, and not
the goddess of fate, rules human destiny
." ~ Edmund P. Clowney (1917-2005)
